Product description

Fred Jerbis is an adventurous young producer from the Fruili region of Italy, who is more of an herbalist than a distiller. Specializing in botanical spirits of many types, Fred forages, grows, and gathers most of his ingredients locally, often times infusing individual botanicals to a single spirit and blending afterward. The Amaro 16 adheres to an old monastic recipe that includes the infusion of sixteen botanicals in high proof spirit, all of them Italian in origin. With linden leaf, ash leaf, mulberry, rhubarb root, currants, and orange peel as the focus, the Amaro 16 is earthy in character, with flavors of bark, forest floor, and dried leaves. With the added sugar making up just 15% of the volume, it’s less sweet than other Amari, yet with a decided richness that lingers.

In the verdant heart of Italy's Friuli region, Fred Jerbis emerges not just as a distiller but as a true herbalist-adventurer, crafting spirits that weave the essence of the land into every sip. His Amaro 16 is a testament to this dedication, a botanical masterpiece that draws its soul from the earth and the hands that tend it. This unique amaro, anchored in a centuries-old monastic recipe, marries sixteen meticulously selected Italian botanicals, each infused in high-proof spirit to capture their singular essence before being artfully blended. The chosen flora—ranging from the tender linden and ash leaves to the robust rhubarb root, the sweetness of mulberries, the tartness of currants, and the citrusy zest of orange peel—paints a complex tableau of flavors. This concoction is decidedly earthy, evoking images of a forest after rain, with notes of bark, the damp forest floor, and autumn’s dried leaves underfoot. Unlike its sweeter counterparts, Amaro 16 offers just a hint of sugar, ensuring its rich flavors linger on the palate with a gentle sweetness, balanced by a profound richness that is both refreshing and deeply satisfying. Crafted with botanicals nurtured in Fred's own garden, foraged from the wild, or sourced from local growers, this amaro is a celebration of Friuli's lush biodiversity, distilled into a bottle. At 25% ABV and recommended as a key ingredient in a Paper Plane cocktail, Amaro 16 invites aficionados and curious sippers alike to explore the depth and breadth of its flavors, a journey through the heart of Friuli with every taste.
