Notes From Distiller Brendan Moylan: We set this Bourbon aside years ago with the intension of creating a Reserve edition. Your whisky club looked like a great place to showcase this incredible bourbon. It contains 75% Bourbon barreled on 4-1-2012 (Reserve Bourbon Batch #1) and 25% barreled on 5-21-2013 (Reserve Bourbon Batch #2) with a mashbill of 52% corn, 34% rye and 14% barley. In 2017 we transferred Batch #1 to a 2nd use Pahlmeyer Chardonnay Francois Freres French Oak barrel. In 2019 we added 10 gallons of Batch #2 to the cask. In 2024 we transferred to a used Single Malt Whisky barrel. Two months before bottling in 2025 75% went into second fill PX Sherry and 25% into second fill Sonoma Portworks Port.
Tasting Notes from Nate: On the nose I get aromas of holiday fruit cake, sorghum syrup, toasted almond, bran muffin, pumpernickel, baking spice and orange peel. Super inviting and complex on the nose, even at cask strength. On the palate I get notes of dried cranberry, coffee cake, caramelized pecan, and red velvet with a touch of date and fig. Holy cow does this have a lot of nuances that work harmoniously together. The different barrels each bring something to the table without becoming the lead singer, more of a choir if you will. And I’m definitely hearing angels sing as I drink this. The finish is long and luxurious with a decadent maple glaze that morphs into ginger snaps and mint. A big thanks goes out to Brendan Moylan for saving this masterpiece for us, and frankly for making it accessible price wise. This is quite the experience!
