Kentucky Owl Bourbon Batch #7 is a distinguished blend that captures the essence of Kentucky craftsmanship. This batch, which was the first to be released outside of Kentucky, consists of 2,535 bottles sourced from fifteen barrels. Eleven of these barrels were aged for over 13 years, adding to the depth and complexity of the bourbon. The remaining four barrels, aged between 8-9 years, were rebarreled at two years of age into new, charred American oak, infusing the bourbon with a unique character.
The aroma of Batch #7 is inviting, featuring notes of caramel toffee, sweet char, crème brulee, cinnamon, vanilla, and red delicious apple. This creates an aromatic experience that is both rich and complex. On the palate, the bourbon presents a bright initial richness of caramel sweetness, followed by a coating of vanilla and toffee. As the taste develops, you will notice a tingling sensation with peppery notes, cinnamon, and a hint of ginger. The finish is marked by a lingering pepper spice coupled with deep oak notes, offering a satisfying conclusion to the tasting experience.
Batch #7 is bottled at a robust 118 proof and 59% alcohol by volume, making it a bold expression of Kentucky Owl's commitment to quality and tradition. Master Blender Dixon Dedman's approach to creating this batch was not to start with a specific taste profile in mind but to follow the flavors to achieve a combination that is sweeter at the front and more complex and spicier on the finish compared to previous batches.
This bourbon is a testament to the art of blending and aging, where each element contributes to a harmonious and rich flavor profile. It's a bourbon that appeals to both seasoned connoisseurs and newcomers, inviting them to explore the depth and nuances of Kentucky's bourbon heritage.
